SOP for operation and calibration of Hot air oven
- SOP covers below points :
- Operation
- Calibration
- Calibration Annexures
1.0 OBJECTIVE :
- To provide a procedure for Operation and Calibration of Hot Air Oven.
2.0 SCOPE :
- This procedure is applicable to Expo-Hi Tech Hot Air Oven.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY :
- Quality control Chemist and above
4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Quality Control Head
5.0 PROCEDURE :
Hot air oven are electrical device which use for drying. An air circulating fan helps for uniform distribution of the heat in oven.
5.1 OPERATION
- Switch “ON” the main supply.
- Electronic temperature controller displays the chamber temperature.
- Set the required temperature by pushing the “SET” switch and first knob (COARSE) clockwise or anticlockwise until the temperature comes near to set one.
- Set the temperature with the help of second knob (FINE).
- Release the push switch.
- Indicator bulb glows indicates that the power to the heater is ‘ON’.
- Switch ‘ON’ the FAN switch for air circulation.
- Use rotary switch for precise control of temperature.
- Four position of rotary switch is available as follows,
- 0 – off position
- 1 – 5°C above ambient to 90°C
- 2 – 90°C to 150°C
- 3 – 150°C to 250°C
- Keep the switch on suitable marking as per requirement of temperature.
5.2 CALIBRATION
- For the calibration of hot air oven use two standard thermometer (range: 0°C to 150°C).
- Set the oven at a temperature 50°C as per operation procedure.
- Put the Calibrated thermometer for 30 minutes in upper shelf and lower shelf of oven and close the door of oven.
- After 30 minutes open the door of oven and carefully read the temperature on Calibrated thermometers randomly.
- Record the observed temperature in format- Calibration of hot air oven (Annexure No. 01).
- Again Set the oven at a temperature 100°C as per operation procedure.
- Repeat the above procedure with 100°C and again record the observed temperature in calibration record of hot air oven as per annexure attached.
- ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA: The observed temperature of thermometer in both shelves should be within + 2.0°C to the set temperature value.
- FREQUENCY : Quarterly
