Silica gel bag – Packaging material standard test procedure

Silica gel bag Testing Procedure

Silica gel packets are commonly used to control the moisture and humidity. They are basically made from silicon dioxide that works efficiently in protecting the pharmaceutical tablets and capsules from moisture inside the packaging box, bottle or container.

  • Description:
    • Acceptance Criteria: Silica gel packed in white cotton paper bags.
  • Weight : Measure dimensions with calibrated measuring scale.
    • Acceptance criteria: _______ gm ± 2 %
  • Moisture content :
    • Procedure: Weigh approximately 5 gm of silica gel bags in to petri dish. place the petri dish into a 1500C in hot air oven for 3 hours. after 3 hours, remove the petri dish and place into a desiccator, allowing it to reach equilibrium with room temperature. record the final weight.

Calculation:

Moisture content =  (Initial sample weight- final sample weigh)  x 100

                                              Initial sample weight

  • Acceptance criteria: Not more than 5%
