1.0 OBJECTIVE :
  • To describe a procedure for Cleaning and Operation of Refrigerators.
2.0 SCOPE :
  • This procedure is applicable for Refrigerators.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY :
  • Lab assistant under supervision of microbiologist
4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY:
  • Head of Department
5.0 PROCEDURE :
5.1 Cleaning :
  • Switch “OFF” the main power supply.
  • Disconnect the refrigerator from electrical connections.
  • Open the refrigerator and remove all the racks, trays and clean using wet mop of disinfectant solution (Dettol 2.5 v/v % or Savlon 2.5 % v/v).
  • Clean the inner and outer surface of refrigerator with 70 % v/v Iso Propyl Alcohol and wipe with soft cloth.
  • Frequency: Twice in month.
5.2 Operation:
  • Ensure that the refrigerator is properly connected to the main power supply.
  • Switch “ON” the main power supply.
  • Keep the Refrigerator “ON” always, except during cleaning.
  • Put the thermometer in the refrigerator.
  • Keep the required material on the rack/trays provided inside of the refrigerator.
  • Set and maintain temperature at 2°C to 8°C.
  • Record the temperature, twice in a day.
